Brézé

Description

An amazing chenin blanc from Burgandy to keep in your cellar. Very special wine.

"Vines with an average age of 60-80 years old, all from the hill of Brézé. The vines are in 4 different vineyards, with a S to S-W exposition on sandy-loamy top soils, with varying degrees of top soil before getting to the tuffeau limestone. One parcel faces N and is on deep clay soils. The fermentation is made half in barrel, and half in stainless steel. Elevage is 24 months in barrel - half of which is new and half which is 2nd and 3rd use - followed by 6 months in steel. This wine can be a nail, with big bulky shoulders, and in warmer vintages (like 2017) can be the best, and in others the most beastly."

"Being electrified by one of Guiberteau’s white wines is quite the experience - these wines are mineral and fresh, with deep concentration and precision. Similar to the reds, the Chenin is picked on the earlier side compared to other producers in the region. The wines are pressed whole cluster, settled by gravity, and fermented with natural yeasts (never chaptalised). Malo is blocked by SO2 at the press, and wines are barrelled-down with the heavy lees. Elevage varies - only the Brézé and the Clos de Carmes see new barrel - the rest neutral oak, cement and steel. All the wines get a light filtration but no fining, and the estate has been farmed organically since the beginning."
