Cuvée Flora Pur

Description

Dornfelder is a grape that usually gets over-cropped and added to other anemic red wines to bolster the colour, but this vineyard was planted over 50 years ago by Jonas and Daniel's grandmother. The yields each year are extremely low so you get prominent fruit, textural yet very fresh on the palate, multifaceted and complex. Blackberry and black cherries, cranberry on the nose and earthy notes that you’d expect from a pinot. Absolute stunner.

Daniel and Jonas have completely converted their vineyard to organic over the years and refined their winemaking skills, producing exceptional German natural wines.

Established in 1891 as a mixed agriculture business, Weingut Brand now comprises 18 hectares under vine and is run by young gun’s Daniel and Jonas Brand. Since 1994 the farming has been done without the use of any herbicides or pesticides and in 2015 it was fully converted to organics, official certification will be granted in 2018.

Daniel, 27, apprenticed for 3 years at wineries in the Pfalz area as well as studying winemaking. Jonas, 23, also has been studying, but apprenticed in Austria with Alwin Jurtschitsch. His time in Austria seeded the idea of making a German Pet Nat. They took over at the winery in 2014. The Pur Range are all unfined, unfiltered and with no additions, including sulphur and as such under German law the wines are unable to be labeled as Pfalz.
